Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson give great performances in this sweet, very warm - albeit predictable - romantic comedy, beautifully shot against the timeless backdrop of grand old London.

Cameron Crowe's ALMOST FAMOUS brings to life memorable characters, laughs and drama against the backdrop of 1970's America and the true days of rock n' roll. The film is so heartfelt and warm, you want to hug it. Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand deliver exceptional performances, worthy of recognition. ALMOST FAMOUS is quite simply almost perfect.

Starring Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson, Frances McDormand, Jason Lee, Anna Paquin, Patrick Fugit, Zooey Deschanel, Noah Taylor and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Reservoir Dogs

A slick, intelligent and original crime-gone-wrong from Quentin Tarantino. RESERVOIR DOGS is thrilling and unique, creating a hugely entertaining and on-edge atmosphere. Tarantino's sharp screenplay deserved more recognition.

Starring Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Steve Buscemi, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn, Quentin Tarantino and Lawrence Tierney.

The Butterfly Effect

Posted : 14 years, 7 months ago on 24 April 2010 04:42 (A review of The Butterfly Effect)

THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT wields a strong narrative and solid characters but faults on its execution. The alternate endings (see DVD) are perhaps more satisfying than the final cut. The screenplay often felt afraid to delve into deeper dialogue, which meant the film lacked the push it needed to create secure entertainment.

Starring Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart, Eric Stoltz.

The 40 Year-Old Virgin

Posted : 14 years, 7 months ago on 24 April 2010 04:36 (A review of The 40-Year-Old Virgin)

THE 40 YEAR-OLD VIRGIN stands as a memorable adult comedy on the performances of its principal cast, led by Steve Carell. The film is a little too long and its bizarre ending might throw some viewers off, but it is a welcomed return to form for R-rated comedies.

Starring Steve Carell, Catherine Keener, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, Romany Malco, Elizabeth Banks, Leslie Mann, Jane Lynch.

Avatar

Maybe it isn't the most original of stories but the fact is, "Avatar" never fails on a level of pure entertainment. If you want a fun, action-packed, visually stunning and thrilling ride, watch it. The script might not be perfect, but it's not as predictable as people say either.
